This file contains a printed version of the MS which has been heavily annotated by hand by John Drew Bate.
Handwritten on lined, foolscap paper, this draft appears to be a neater version of the first. Has accompanying Royal Asiatic Society label "BATE, Islamic Studies. MSS - prepared for continuation Missionaries Vade Mecum"
This is an early draft of the manuscript. it can be dated to the period around 1895-1898 because Bate created his own notebooks by cutting up pieces of paper, including "The Statesman Weekly".
Bate produced a series of articles under the heading of India as a Field of Missions which were published in 1899. These papers contain handwritten manuscripts for the articles "The Story of Shri Bishwas Dhar", "The Story of Kapil Babu" and "the Story of Manorama", a proof copy of No.5 and the series of articles taken out of their original magazines.
There is also a newspaper clipping from "Freeman, 1881" giving details of man's conversion to Christianity from a Hindu family. There is also a typed version of the story of Kopil Babu.
This is a handwritten article about Hindi music - a 'neat' copy with no annotations. It is undated but accompanying it are 2 newspaper clippings from "The Times of India" concerning the Revival of Indian Music in Indian Schools, dated 3rd August, 1930. These therefore must have been put with the article at a later date, possibly by E E Bate
This file contains a number of newspaper articles concerning the Burrisaul (Barisal) Guns, with some accompanying notes by John Drew Bate. There are 4 copies of a proof for one article written by Bate, but it is unclear whether the other articles are his authorship.
5 copies of the draft for the article "The Beloved Disciple" and a copy of the article extracted from its magazine publication. The drafts are marked Folkestone so suggest the article dates from the time of Bate's retirement
