'Extract from a letter of Major Rawlinson addressed to Mr Norris, dated Behistun, Sept. 20, 1847' in which he is delighted to report that having returned to the site ten days previously, with renewed health and spirit, he has found a considerable portion of the Babylonian inscription to be legible. He has made copies of the inscription using a powerful telescope resulting in him obtaining a list of Babylonian names and a 'tolerable' vocabulary.

Extract from a Preface to the Shahnamah of Firdausi, dated A.H. 829 (A.D.1425/26). A translation of part of a Preface with corrections. This item is unsigned but the handwriting matches that of David Price in the Shahnamah that he bequeathed to the Society (CODRINGTON/READE NO 238). He also bequeathed a Preface to the Shahnamah (CODRINGTON/READE NO 345 (3)) but it is unknown if this translation was carried out using this manuscript. On the reverse of the extract are the words, 'Shah Abbas - - No 6'.

News cutting of "Extract from Evening Transcript, Boston Mass., U.S.A." to report that at the recent anniversary meeting of the Royal Asiatic Society it was announced that a grant from the James Forlong Fund will be made for the publication of "Primitive Cultures of India" by Colonel Hodson. It also lists the works published by the Oriental Translation Fund. It reports that Lord Chalmers' speech had been positive about the future of the Royal Asiatic Society's life and work.

This book contains extracts from the book titled L'histoire universelle des missions catho liques , II, published in 1957. These include chapters written by Henri Bernard-Maitre under the titles: "Le père Ricci et les missions de Chine"; "Le père de nobili et les missions de l'Inde", "Les Missions de Chines Après 1644"; "La rencontre du padroado et du patronato: l'affrontement des méthodes"; and "Les réactions européennes a l'ouvre missionaire". A chapter written by E. Jarry under the title "La querelles des rites" is also included.
