The book is heavily annotated and on the title page he suggests that this is Volume 1 of 3, the others being published in 1879. Also within the book is a loose sheet between pp.144-145 containing extra notes; a further sheet of notes at page 1 of Part II; a newspaper cutting from the "Naval and Military Gazette" of 10 January 1876 concerning the Ghurkhas between pp. 40-41 of Part II; a newspaper cutting from the Athenaeum of 24 March 1877 concerning a meeting in which it was reported that Hodgson had talked about the broken tribes of Nepal between pp.44-45 of Part II; a printed sheet with an article from The Phoenix - "The Northern Frontagers of China" by Henry H. Howorth between pp. 66-67 of Part II. On the front cover "Own Copy" has been written in ink and the interior has many annotations. Hardbound printed material with handwritten annotations, 1874.

Barnett to inform that since the requisite period was about to elapse since the death of Charles Ambrose Storey, the Society would soon be able to dispose of the surplus books. These were first to be offered to the British Institute of Persian Studies. The letter concerns organising a meeting for this to take place.

This fascicle was issued by American missionary and philologist Rev. Nathan Brown (1807-1886) and sent to every scholar willing to answer his call for contributions (« Proposal for Forming a Comparative Vocabulary of all the Indo-Chinese Languages », in Calcutta Christian Observer, Vol. 4, 1835, pp. 572-579).
