"Spare copies of certain Letters and Reports to Government of Fort St. George for convenience of reference, 8th December, 1840". Series of handwritten documents. Inserted into the journal was a "Hindoostan Report" or "A Native Gentleman Letter" and a copy of "Persian Court Gazette for sana-yi 1267 (21 February 1851). (These documents have been removed from the journal for better preservation.) Leatherbound journal.

"The Archaeological Lecture" - a lighthearted article about attending an archaeological lecture. With hand-drawn illustrations of "Miss O'Lithia", "Natufian Herrings" and "Globular lug-handled-urn".

"A Grammar of Azerbaijan Turkish" - an unpublished manuscript in which Tandy sets out in chapters what he has learnt about the language. The manuscript consists of 46 foolscap pages. With the manuscript are two letters. The first, unsigned, is to General Sir John Shea, c/o The Royal central Asian Society, to send this grammar which he believes is the only English language grammar of Azerbaijani Tartar or Turki. It was compiled in 1940 when Tandy was in Meshed and he hopes that it may be of interest to some member of the Royal Central Asian Society or, possibly, to the War Office.
The second letter is from R.O. Wingate, Secretary of the Royal Central Asian Society, to Major Tandy replying in the absence of Sir John Shea. He thanks Tandy for the Grammar and expresses that it is being kept in the rooms of the Society for use by its members and that the Secretary has found it interesting reading. This letter is dated 31 July 1946.

An invitation from the President, Council and Fellows of the Royal Geographical Society to invite a delegate from the Royal Asiatic Society to represent the Society at the Royal Geographical Socety's Centenary on 21 October 1930 and the succeeding two days. • Letter from Tapani Harviainen, Secretary General, Finnish Oriental Society, to Michael Pollock, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to reply to his letter by sending a short description of the Finnish Oriental Society and to inform him that a history of the Society was being prepared. Typed, dated 19 October 1993.
• "Finnish Oriental Society"- the description of the Society, its founding, activities and journal. Typed.
• Letter from Michael Pollock, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to Tapani Harviainen, Secretary General, Finnish Oriental Society, to thank him for the information. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 26 October 1993.

Material concerned with the British Institute (of Archaeology) at Ankara and its interaction with the Royal Asiatic Society. These are:

• Note from the December Council Meeting 1986 concerning representatives from the Royal Asiatic Society on the Board of the British School of Archaeology at Ankara. The first representative was Sir Gerard Clauson, followed by Susan Skilliter. On her death Godfrey Goodwin has offered to serve in that capacity. Handwritten, undated. With the note is a copy of a letter from Godfrey Goodwin to inform that he is willing to serve. Handwritten, dated 19 July 1986.
• Letter from Dr Stephen Hill, Honorary Secretary, British Institute of Archaeology at Ankara, to Lydia Collins, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform her that at the meeting of the Institute's Council of Management, proposals for management restructuring were provisionally agreed. He informs that this change will be brought before members at the next Annual General meeting. Typed, undated. On this letter is a handwritten note concerning the change in Charity legislation and how this may affect the Society's representation on the Governing Body of SOAS. Dated 9 May 1994. With the letter are 4 pages on the restructuring of the Council of Management.
• Note from Dennis Duncanson to Dr MacDowall that he disagrees that the legislative change will affect the Society's involvement with SOAS. Handwritten, dated 10 May 1994.
• Letter from Peter Lawrence, British Institute of Archaeology at Ankara, to Mr MacDowall to thank for his letter explaining how the Society is restructuring its Council and how members may be able to receive Society funds. He writes concerning discussions between the Institute and the Charity Commission. Handwritten with printed letterhead, dated 30 November 1994.
