Correspondence with Raymond Head mainly concerned with identification of artworks in the Society's Collections.

Four letters concerning the drawings of Brian Houghton Hodgson in Paris. These are:

• Letter from Rita Réguir, Centre d'Etudes dess Monuments de Monde Indian, Paris, to Raymond Head to give the name and address of Gilles Béguin, Conservator at the Musée Guimet as the person to contact regarding the Hodgson drawings. She also includes a photograph of the Palm-tree House at Berlin designed by K.F. Schinkel to show the influence on Indian architecture on Western style which she hopes may be of some use to Head. Dated 28 June 1983. The photograph is with the letter.
• Letter from Raymond Head to Gilles Béguin to ask for his help concerning the identity of the drawings given by Hodgson to the Institute de France, Paris, dated 18 August 1983.
• Letter from Gilles Béguin to Raymond Head regarding suitable dates for Head to visit Paris to see the drawings. Written in French, dated 27 October 1983.
• Letter from Gilles Béguin to Raymond Head to confirm the dates of Head's visit to Paris. Written in French, dated 29 November 1983.

Draft of a letter from Brian Houghton Hodgson to Sir George MacGregor writing that he is pleased for the country's sake that Jung Bahadur's offer has been accepted. He writes of Jung Bahadur's high energy and talent, his knowledge of positions and his forthcomingness. He reminds MacGregor that Gorkhas eat in the early morning for the whole day so if he wants then to march at 7am, they must be roused at 4am. He advises MacGregor to be cheerful and kind and this will 'carry the Gorkhas'. Handwritten, 4 sides, dated 12 December 1857.

Letter from J G Parker, Research Assistant, The Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts, to Raymond Head to inform which institutions hold papers of Brian Houghton Hodgson.

Letter from T D Rogers, Assistant Librarian, Bodleian Library, to Raymond Head to inform him that they cannot find any drawings by Brian Houghton Hodgson in the Department of Western Manuscripts of the Oriental Department of the Bodleian Library.

These Papers were all produced in the compiling of the A Catalogue of the Paintings and Drawings in the Royal Asiatic Society, London. which was published by the Royal Asiatic Society in 1991. The material includes a manuscript proof, correspondence connected to the artworks of the Society, correspondence and lists for compiling the index, and notes and articles which Head collected and collated during his research.

Summary by Brian Houghton Hodgson of Jung Bahadur's letter of VE 1912 Vaiśākah śudi 15 (CE April 1855), Hodgson's title description reads "Letter brought by Gajraj from Jung Feb 1855". Handwritten, 3 sides.
