It appears that in 1939 the Royal Asiatic Society were looking at different options for their premises. There are two items of correspondence:

• Letter from Col. D.M.F. Hoysted, RAS Secretary, to Sir Edward Maclagan to inform that the freeholder's Solicitors have approved of the Society leasing Farm House. He encloses a financial statement and will seek Mr Perowne's advice (RAS Treasurer). Dated 14 July 1939.
• Letter from Edward Maclagan to Col. Hoysted to discuss the figures and to suggest that it doesn't go before the Committee before he has heard from Mr Perowne. Dated 15 July 1939.

A letter from Colonel Henry Helsham-Jones to Sir Edward Douglas Maclagan to give information regarding the Patparganj Pillar. This was erected in 1916 to commemorate the 1803 Battle of Delhi. Helsham-Jones relates that he had heard from Col. Creswell, a former Royal Engineer, who was assistant engineer when Helsham-Jones had been constructing the Lower Ganges Canal. Creswell had asked his daughter, a Mrs Talbot, when at Delhi, about the Pillar. Mrs Talbot had seen the pillar and asked General Norman who informed her that he "had moved the pillar to what was considered the right spot". Helsham-Jones therefore supposes that the pillar has been moved and set up on the mound mentioned at the conclusion of Maclagan's monograph.

With the letter is a note to say that the letter had been found in a copy of the Journal of the Panjab Historical Society, Vol. I, 1911-12 and that this Journal had been given to the Society by Maclagan.

The pillar can currently be found within the grounds of the Noida Golf Course.

Letter from Sir Edward Maclagan, Acting President of Royal Asiatic Society, to Colonel Hoysted, Secretary of Royal Asiatic Scoiety, to enclose a copy of the letter he had sent to Aurel Stein asking him to accept the Gold Medal and to inform when he will next be in England. The copy of this letter is also present. Handwritten, dated 11 March 1932.

Letter from Sir Edward Maclagan, Chair of the Gold Medal Committee, to Colonel Hoysted, Secretary of the Royal Asiatic Society, to inform him that according to the regulations that notification of the members of the Committee, nominated by the President, should be passed to the Council members before the Committee meets. Handwritten with printed letterhead, dated 7 February 1935.

Letter from Sir Edward Maclagan, Chair of Gold Medal Committee, to Colonel Hoysted, Secretary of Royal Asiatic Society, to ask him to send on to the President the enclosed letter regarding their choice of candidate for the Gold Medal. Handwritten with printed letterhead, dated 22 February 1935. With this is a letter with their recommendation of Sir Denison Ross as the recipient. Handwritten with printed letterhead and signed by the 3 members of the Committee, undated.

Letter from R.E. Enthoven, member of the Universities Prize Essay Committee, to E Maclagan, Chair of the Committee, to express his disappointment at the lack of entries and their standard, and to state, that after careful perusal, he considered No.3 as the best. Handwritten with printed letterhead, dated 21 October 1936. With his letter is a note from E. Maclagan to Col. Hoysted to state that he is sending him Enthoven's letter. Handwritten with printed letterhead, dated 5 November 1936.

Letter from E Maclagan to D.S. Margoliouth to state that he would be pleased to present the Prize Medal. Handwritten, with printed letterhead, dated 24 November 1937.

Letter from E. Maclagan to Col. Hoysted, RAS Secretary, to inform that the Committee for selecting the subject for the Universities Prize Essay had met and suggest two different titles. Handwritten, 1 side, dated 10 December 1936.

Letter from D.S. Margoliouth to E. Maclagan to ask if he will present the Prize medal. On the reverse is a note from Maclagan to Col. Hoysted to write that he had suggested that [ ] does the presentation and could Hoysted provide him with the necessary information. Both handwritten, 2 sides, dated 23 November 1937.
