The fourth Anglo-American Conference of Historians was held at Senate House, the University of London, from 6-11 July 1936. These papers consist of correspondence and documentation in connection with this Conference. These are:

Letter from the Vice-Chancellor, University of London, Institute of Historical Research, to the President, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform concerning the fourth Anglo-American Conference of Historians for the discussion of the problems of historical research which are of interest to the English-speaking world. He asks for the Royal Asiatic Society to send a representative. Typed letter with printed letterhead, dated 14 December 1935. With this letter is a printed Revised Provisional Programme for the Conference stating the Organising Committee, the Sections and the Time-Table for the Conference.

Letter from Col. Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to H.L. Eason, University of London, to state that the Council had appointed Sir William Foster to be their delegate at the conference. Typed, dated 14 January 1936.

Letter from Margery Fletcher, Assistant-Secretary, Anglo-American Conference of Historians, to Col. Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank for the letter informing of the Society's delegate. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 15 January 1936.

Letter from Guy Parsloe, Secretary, Anglo-American Conference of Historians, to the President, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform him that the letter saying delegate should have read representatives and asking whether the Royal Asiatic Society wished to nominate further representatives. Typed, with printed letterhead, dated 13 February 1936.

Letter from Col. Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to Guy Parsloe, Secretary, Anglo-American Conference of Historians, to state that Sir Richard Burn would also represent the Society. Typed, dated 13 March 1936.

Copies of emails between Shahryar Z.R. Iqbal, Council Member, Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, and Adrian Thomas, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, concerning the payment of Iqbal's membership fees and his publications on the history of Bangladesh. Three emails, dated April 2002.

At different times proposals were made and considered for branches of the Royal Asiatic Society. This material covers proposals for Australia, Burma (Myanmar), Indonesia and Taiwan.

Established as the Shanghai Literary and Scientific Society, in 1857, the Society became affiliated to the Royal Asiatic Society the following year, becoming the Royal Asiatic Society (North China Branch). This material was collated in the interaction of the two Societies; the closure of the North China Branch and subsequent questions regarding it closure; and in its reopening and re-establishing links with the Royal Asiatic Society.

This material was collated in the interactions between the Asiatic Society of Japan and the Royal Asiatic Society.

The International Congress of Orientalists, initiated in Paris in 1873, was an international conference of Orientalists. It was later renamed as the International Congress of Human Sciences in Asia and North Africa and then as the International Congress of Asian and North African Studies. This material covers the interaction of the Royal Asiatic Society with the Congress in the time period 1889 to 1993.

Correspondence and official documentation concerned with International Congresses of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences and the association of the Royal Asiatic Society with the Congresses.

These papers are concerned with the Finnish Oriental Society and the interaction of the Royal Asiatic Society with them in 1933 and 1983.

Material concerned with the British Association for Cemeteries in South Asia and the interaction of the Royal Asiatic Society with the Association. These are:

• Letter from Lydia Collins, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to Rosemarie Wilkinson, Membership Secretary, British Association for Cemeteries in South Asia, to inform her that at the last meeting of the Council of the Royal Asiatic Society it was resolved that the Society should become an Institutional Benefactor of British Association for Cemeteries in South Asia. • Letter from British Association for Cemeteries in South Asia to Lydia Collins, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank her for the letter and cheque and to welcome the Society as a 'Group' Benefactor. Material concerned with the Iran Society and the interaction of the Royal Asiatic Society with it. These are:

• Letter from Michael Noel-Clarke, Chairman, The Iran Society, to Professor Anthony Stockwell, President, Royal Asiatic Society to inquire regarding possibilities of cooperation between the two societies and to include a copy of the programme for 2002-2003 and a history of the Iran Society written by Sir Denis Wright.
