Purefoy James d 1846 Captain, merchant sailorLetter from Captain James Purefoy to his brother-in-law, Robert Turbett, in which he gives details of his journey to China on the Anna, a boat owned by a Persian merchant, which set sail in October 1793. He writes of the places that they stopped at or passed including Princes island, Batavia, Borneo, before arriving at Macao where they deposited their cargo of cotton and filled the hold with items such as sugar and tea. The letter is dated Bombay January 10th 1794, handwritten, 1 piece, 4 sides.

There is also a further note on this paper "2 Bills of Exchange and seven letters in the packet 1968".

He writes after putting into harbour at St Louis. He expects to return to Kolkata in a few days. He informs Thomas that he has settled his affairs with his friend and agent, John Leckie ,who will remit to Thomas all the property belonging to James in the event of his death. This should be divided equally between Thomas, their sister Jane (Mrs Eyre), Rachael and Tammy.
