This file consists of two items. This first is an untitled newspaper cutting concerning converted Christians giving witness. The second is a one sheet (page 18) of a typed manuscript giving part of the story of Joseph Pitts, possibly the first Englishman to visit Mecca in 1678

This is an early draft of the manuscript. it can be dated to the period around 1895-1898 because Bate created his own notebooks by cutting up pieces of paper, including "The Statesman Weekly".

They cover from the time of John Drew Bate's training through most of his missionary life in India. Interleaved with many of the Manuscripts are scraps of paper with additional notes.The early outlines also contain notes on Literature and poetry.
