These Papers consists of letters sent by orientalists and literary figures to Bernard Quaritch, mainly concerning the obtaining or selling of oriental literature.
Bernard QuaritchLetter from Sir Monier Monier-Williams to Bernard Quaritch in which he writes concerning the publication of his "Indian Wisdom", published by W.H. Allen. Many copies have been subscribed for by the Indian Government but he can offer Quaritch 8 copies at 12/6 each, the same price as offered to the India Office. In a postscript he informs of recently published reviews of his book. Handwritten, 3 sides, dated 6 July 1875. The letter has been glued on to cardboard which is in poor condition.
Sir Monier Monier-WilliamsLetter from Sir Monier Monier-Williams to Bernard Quaritch to inform him that the trade price for Indian Wisdom is actually 15 shillings and therefore he should have to charge that price. However he wants to keep his word to Quaritch and therefore encloses a cheque for £1 to cover the extra cost that the publisher will charge. Handwritten, 2 sides, dated 16 July 1875. Quaritch has added a note at the top of the letter: "Send cheque £6 to W.H. Allen".
Sir Monier Monier-WilliamsLetter from Max Müller to Bernard Quaritch in which he writes concerning Sanskrit grammars, recommending that of Wilson and a new one in the Press by Professor Benfey, a German professor (Theodor Benfey (1809 – 1881) was a German philologist). Handwritten, 3 sides, dated 22 October [1868] (year of Benfey's publication). The letter has been stuck to a piece of cardboard.

James LeggeLetter from Horace Hayman Wilson to Bernard Quaritch to thank Quaritch for the copies of the Persian Grammar which he had presented to the India Office Library and to the Professor. Wilson states that the grammar seems likely to be very useful. Handwritten, 1 side, dated 31 August 1857.
Letter from Herbert Allen Giles to Bernard Quaritch in which he apologises that the last rubbing is less legible than the first. He writes concerning a dinner for W. Fang which he assumes will be at 6pm. He would not be able to get to the Freemasons Hall before that time. He doubts that the Marquis will come up from Folkestone and asks whether the Editor of the London & China Express had received a formal invitation. Handwritten, 3 sides, dated 27 January 1884.

Sir Ernest Mason SatowLetter from Edwin Arnold to Bernard Quaritch in which he introduces to Quaritch a Japanese professor travelling to study commercial chemistry at the University of Tokyo. He has with him a remarkable book – a complete Flora Japonica – which he wishes to sell. He asks Quaritch to advise the professor where he may find the most appreciative purchaser.
