        History

Hubert Benoit was a French psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, philosopher and writer of psychology and spiritual traditions, particularly Zen Buddhism. Trained in medicine and psychiatry, he explored questions of consciousness, selfhood, suffering, and personal transformation through both psychological and philosophical perspectives. His work, La Doctrine Suprême (1951), examined the nature of the ego and the pursuit of self-realisation, while his writings more broadly emphasised self-awareness, inner observation and the transcendence of limiting mental habits.
