With the paper are handwritten and typed notes on Hajj, and a typed notice from the Colombia University in the City of New York, advertising a lecture series entitled, 'The Pilgrimage Process: Transience as a Means of Religious Community'; 16 pieces.
              • 'Pilgrimage and the History of Religions: Theoretical Approaches to the Hajj'. This came from a folder dated 1980 and is annotated, 'Read at Phoenix Conf., & to be published in [Martin] edited vol.'. Typed, 18 pages.

              Two Pilgrim Passes for Mecca:

              • Pilgrim Pass for Heji Abdul Azio bin Heji-Samat, a pilgrim from Kelantan, Malaysia. The pass is the portion to be retained by the Malay Pilgrimage Officer at the Jeddah Office, and bears the details of the passholder, his photograph and thumbprint. It is dated 18-19 June 1924.
              • Pilgrim Pass for Che Ali bin Mamat, age 21 months, from Kelanatan, Malaysia. The pass was valid for one return journey on pilgrimage to Mecca, and contains his personal and family details and a photograph. Appended is a repot from the Chief Medical Officer, Kelantan, giving dates of the child's smallpox and cholera vaccinations. It is dated 2-18 August 1939.

              Printed documents concerned with Hajj pilgrimage with some notes made by Roff. These were taken from the folder labelled 'Mecca Incident 1979' (WR/10) as not connected with the incident. The documents are:

              • 'Cholera in Mecca' - notification of a spreading cholera epidemic in Mecca, sent from the Chief Secretary's office, dated 16 September 1911. With the printed notice, Roff has appended to the notice, a note about the epidemic.
              • 'Particulars supplied by native Netherlands subjects who apply for a Netherlands Indian Pilgrim Pass to Mecca for the Hajj Season'. Printed form, in English and Arabic to be filled out by pilgrims, undated. With the form, Roff has appended a note entitled 'KSUK 1502/1932 Haj' about a note from 'BA to SUK' regarding the 1932 Hajj and allowing natives from Kelantan to get passes.
              • 'Kapal Haji Serombong Biru' - advertising poster, in Arabic and Malay, for travel for the Hajj pilgrimage. Issued by S. Ali Mattar, Manager, Jeddah Pilgrim Office, dated 20 May 1938.
