Allen to Vera Bowen in which Allen thanks Vera Bowen for sending back his original letter and informs her that his Celebi project is still a work in progress which he hopes to accomplish before his death. He will be in London the next week and hopes to meet with her to discuss her husband's literary materials. Dated: 1 May 1964.

This material is concerned with Allen's research into Evliya Çelebi, (1611?-1682?), the Ottoman explorer and the possibility of collaborating on translations of Celebi's work. It consists of correspondence and some manuscripts.

Letter from W.E.D. Allen to Harold Bowen, Hakluyt Society. A project proposal addressed to Hakluyt Society and the Royal Asiatic Society regarding translating the works of Ottoman traveller Evliya Celebi, total of 10 volumes, 8 of which are in Arabic and 2 in Ottoman Turkish. Includes information about the importance of Celebi's works as a social history of 17th century Ottoman Empire. Proposes budget for the project and requirements of translators, editors and annotators. Dated: 9 October 1954.

Letter from Peter Skelton to W.E.D. Allen in which he writes of a forthcoming C.A.S. dinner and discusses Mango's translation of Russian Embassies. He suggests that Allen put forward a proposal for a second volume to the Council of the Hakluyt Society and that the switch to Cambridge University Press has much increased the sales of the Society. He is pleased with Allen's choice of collaborator for Evliya, thanks him for the Russian catalogue and his news on the Arabic globe in Naples. Dated: 19 June 1958.

Letter from W.E.D. Allen to Peter Skelton in which he writes about his concerns regarding the possibilities of UNESCO being involved with the publication of his project. He writes that he is hoping to meet Ménage before he goes to Turkey. Dated: 23 June 1958

Letter from Victor Louis Ménage to W.E.D. Allen. in which he discusses UNESCO's interest in sponsoring an oriental translation of the works of Evliya Celebi and possible collaboration with academics knowledgeable of both the subject matter and the goings on of the world of academia. Dated: 26 June [1958].

Letter from W.E.D. Allen to Victor Louis Ménage in which Allen discusses existing translations of Celebi's first three volumes by Von Hammer which he praises. He also discusses issues arising from the unwillingness of Turkish authorities to help in presenting Celebi's work for political reasons including his favorable depictions of Armenians and Kurds as well as the reality of his Ottoman identity which Allen feels clashes with the new more European identity contemporary Turks prefer to adopt. Dated: 23 April 1960.

Letter from W.E.D. Allen to Victor Louis Ménage in which Allen thanks Ménage for sending Serbo-Croat Celebi volumes and admits that despite his lack of knowledge in Serbo-Croat his knowledge of Russian helped him asses that the editor of the text has done a good job. Dated: 18 October 1960.

Letter from Victor Louis Ménage to W.E.D. Allen in which Ménage apologises for his inability to help Allen further with his work on Celebi due to his own workload at the university. However, he suggests Allen read a thesis available at Senate House library that could help. Ménage attaches his guidelines on checking out material from the library. Dated: 21 July 1965.
