This small collection consists of seven certificates of membership of organisations or Honorary conferment of degrees. Thus:

• Certificate of Honorary Membership of Die Geographische Gesellschaft in Munchen, 1909
• Confirmation of Degree of Doctor of Science, Cambridge, 1910
• Certificate of Honorary Membership of Royal Scottish Geographical Society, 1910
• Certificate of Membership of Anthropologische Gesellschaft, 1911
• Certificate for Doctor of Philosophy from University of Tubingen, 1933
• Certificate on becoming Honorary Doctor of Law of St. Andrews University, 1939
• Certificate of Membership of American Philosophical Society, 1939

Hodgson used much of his time in both Nepal and Darjeeling in research, wanting to discover and understand about the architecture, languages, ethnography, religion, zoology and botany. He collected specimens and manuscripts, and had many drawings made, which he donated to many collections throughout Europe. He was also politically involved during his Residency in Nepal, and also later in England, when he continued to show an active interest in the Indian subcontinent, particularly regarding trade and vernacular education. These Personal Papers reflect these interests and are a record of much of his activity - Hodgson and his wives seemed to have a need to record all his successes. He was also a keen annotator of material, so that most of the printed material also bears his handwritten comments.

Leather binding with metal clasp. The book's binding is broken and some pages are loose. Care must be taken when using this item.

Diploma given by the Royal Scottish Geographical Society to M.Aurel Stein to confer on him the position of Honorary Fellow of the Society. Printed Material, dated 22 February 1910 and signed by President, James Geikie; Acting Secretary, George G. Chisholm; and Honorary Secretaries, Ralph Richardson and John Ian Bartholomew.
