These certificates of recommendation are application forms submitted by candidates who were desirous of becoming a member of the Society, giving their personal details (name, occupation and address) and the names and addresses of the proposer and seconder. Printed on the reverse of the form is notes and rules relating to membership and subscriptions.
Sometimes a candidate’s form was filed with correspondence notifying their successful election and their 'Form A', signed by the member after their election to confirm that they agree to observe and comply with the membership rules, and that they will promote the interests and welfare of the Society.
