              Letter from Captain H. Harkness, Secretary of the Royal Asiatic Society, to Brian Houghton Hodgson concerning his donation of the Sata Sahasrika Prajna Paramita and his promise of the Nava Dharma and other books of the Sangatas which are found in Hodgson's sketch of Buddhism. He expresses praise, on behalf of the Council, for Hodgson's work and how they agree that Sanskrit was the language in which the Buddha sages first committed their doctrines. Though they expect that Hodgson must have extended considerable money on his researches, and though they would wish to support him, funds will not enable them to do so. Handwritten, 3 sides, dated 24 January 1836.

              "Opening of the Topes or Buddhist monuments of Central India (Bhilsa)." Paper concerning the Buddhist topes, particularly those around Bhilsa by A. Cunningham. Note at the end: "The original of the paper was sent by the last mail to Profr H. H. Wilson for immediate publication. Hodgson has added additional note to this statement that "This above paper is a complete vindication of my views of Buddhism..." Handwritten, 2 pieces, 8 sides. Article by Cunningham published in 1854.

              "Architectural illustrations of Buddhism." Paper by Hodgson which begins "During the time when I was engaged in discovering, procuring & testing the general character of the literary monuments of Buddhism in Nepal, I was likewise employed in accumulating architectural and sculptural illustrations of the same creed..." He proceeds to list the drawings that he is about to present to the Institute of France and continues to write about the "general character of the sacred edifices of Buddhism in Nepal. There are two copies of this paper - a first rough draft in Hodgson's hand and a fair copy by S H entitled, "Architecture of Buddhism to French Institute Sept 1857 N.B. Annie took it home Nov 10/57. Delivered to the Institute 16th January 1858. through the British Embassy at Paris by favour of Lords Cranworth & Clarendon. To Müller July 22 the fair copy & drawings. Rough copy, handwritten, 3 pieces, 12 sides, dated September 1857. Fair copy, handwritten, 6 pieces, 13 sides, dated September 1857.
