              Letter from Edward Byles Cowell to Brian Houghton Hodgson to thank him for the list of Sanskrit Buddhist books that he had sent. He writes of Max Müller's interesting lecture on the Sukhāvatīvyūha found in Japan. He requests that Hodgson search for a copy of the Dharmakośa (a copy of the commentary on this text by Yaśomitra was already available in Cambridge) and writes of Cowell's lecture to students on the Lalitavistara (Hodgson finally found the text of Dharmakośa compiled by Amritananda Bandya of Patan in Nepal and has been published by the Royal Nepal Academy). Handwritten, 4 sides, dated 24 February 1880.

              Copy of an extract from the proceedings of the Asiatic Society of Bengal for 1 May 1839 in which it was reported that Mr Prinsep was the official channel for the transmitting to Mr Hodgson of Nepal, the diploma and letter of appointment as Chevalier of the Legion of Honor of France. This honour was conferred in light of Mr Hodgson's study of the Buddhistical faith and for his procurement of Buddhist literature, and in making known a great variety of new objects in natural history and science.               Draft letter from Brian Houghton Hodgson to The Right Honorable Sir C. Wood, G.L.B., MP, Secretary of State for India, in which he writes with his concerns regarding a large collection of Manuscripts from Kathmandu concerning civil and natural history and Buddhism, which have been inspected by Mr Hall, India Office Librarian. He collected these to inform more about Tibet and wishes to tender to Sir C.Wood that they be deposited in the India Office Library. Handwritten, 4 sides, dated 2 August 1864.

              Letter from Dr Reinhold Rost to Brian Houghton Hodgson in which he thanks Hodgson for his timely letter and remarks that Mr Fergusson's Paper was only of a provisional nature and that Fergusson has since been working on a book on snake worship In India. He assures Hodgson that Fergusson will be pleased to know of Hodgon's pioneering work in the field. He also writes that he has made a list of Hodgons's contribution to English and Indian periodicals except those of the Bengal Asiatic Society Journal. He does not know when he will be able to finish the list and suggests lending the Index of the Journal to Hodgson to get the pages copied out. Handwritten, 2 sides, dated 20 August 1868.
