John Romer was born in 1780 at Ancroft, County Durham, England. Romer held the office of Magistrate of Surat in 1816 and was Acting Governor of Bombay in 1831.He was vice-president of the British Empire Life Assurance Company Ltd in 1839. He wrote articles on Persian and Zand in the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bombay and the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society.

Alexander Rogers was educated at Haileybury College before joining the Indian Civil Service at the Bombay (Mumbai) Presidency in 1845. He was elected for the executive branch. He served in the Northern Division becoming Collector and Magistrate in 1860, and Revenue and Police Commissioner in 1865. He became a Member of the Council in Bombay in 1872 before retiring in 1879. His publications include History of the Land Revenue Settlement of Bombay, and translations of three modern Persian plays and of Yusuf and Zuleika. He died on 27 November 1910.

Francis Christopher Rowland Robinson CBE, DL, FRAS (born 23 November 1944 in Barnet) is a British historian and academic who specialises in the history of South Asia and Islam. Since 1990, he has been Professor of History of South Asia at the University of London. He has twice been president of the Royal Asiatic Society: from 1997 to 2000, and from 2003 to 2006.
