The Survey Department of the Federated Malay States was the government department responsible for the mapping, charting and valuation of the Crown estate and for all surveys affecting title to land in the states of Perak, Pahang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan of Malaysia.

The Survey of India is India's central engineering agency in charge of mapping and surveying. Set up in 1767, to help consolidate the territories of the British East India Company. It is one of the oldest Engineering Departments of the Government of India.

Peter Williams-Hunt took aerial photographs in reconnaissance missions for the Royal Air Force during and after the World War II. Later, he was interested in the application of utilizing aerial photographs for archaeology studies. He wrote an article on the discovery of Roman site from aerial survey in 1946 (Williams-Hunt & Bradford, 1946). He made the collection of these aerial photographs of Southeast Asia whilst working as an aerial photograph interpreter for the Royal Air Force during and after the World War II.

The Royal Asiatic Society Hong Kong was founded in 1847, growing out of a Medico-Chirurgical Society founded in 1845. It ceased to exist in 1859. However in 1959, it was re-established with the Inaugural Meeting held on April 7, 1960, in the Loke Yew Hall of the University of Hong Kong. It still exists to encourage an active interest in East Asia, and in Hong Kong in particular, through lectures and discussions, overseas visits, and by publishing an annual Journal.
