The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

  • Letter from David Sheil, Royal Asiatic Society, Hong Kong, to Michael Pollock, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society to thank Michael for his visit to see the Society's library and to promise to send the Hong Kong Branch's catalogue when he returns to Hong Kong. Handwritten, 1 piece, dated 5 January 1991.
  • Letter from Geoffrey Roper, Chairman, Activities Committee, Hong Kong Branch, to Michael Pollock, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to report on a visit made by members of the Hong Kong Branch to Shanghai to see the library of the former North China Branch. Typed, dated 8 April 1997.
  • Correspondence between D.D. Waters, President, Hong Kong Branch, and T.N. Guina, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, concerning the possible use of the Royal Asiatic Society's premises for meetings of overseas members of the Hong Kong Branch. Three letters, typed, and a handwritten note of a telephone conversation, dated 6 August 1997-28 November 1997.
  • Correspondence concerning the Hong Kong Branch's application to become a charity. Six letters plus two included reports, typed, dated 21 August 1999-6 July 2000.
