Histoire administrative
The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

The material for this year contains:
- Letter from B.C. Bloomfield to Godfrey Goodwin, Director of Royal Asiatic Society, to send information concerning the national inter-lending scheme. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 2 February 1984. With this letter is a copy of one from M.B. Line to Bloomfield explaining the procedure.
- Letter from Anthony Bennell to Director, Royal Asiatic Society, to state that he would be unable to attend the Library Committee Meeting that had been called for 7 and 8 March. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 21 February 1984.
- Letter from Dr. G.S.P. Freeman-Grenville to Charles to provide the details of a bookbinder. Typed letter, dated 16 April 1984. With this is a further typed note of a letter sent to the book binder, dated 24 May, 1984.
