In the Minutes of the Council Meeting for 9 June 1966 it was reported that two of the three essay titles submitted by potential candidates were accepted and the third candidate was asked to widen the topic of his essay. In the Minutes for 11 October 1966 it was recorded that no essays had been submitted. The competition would be run again in 1967. In the report of the Anniversary Meeting in the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society, 1967, p.184 is was recorded that "No award was made".
