    In the Minutes of the Council Meeting for 14 April 1955, it was noted the Competition's Examiners were approved and in the Minutes for 13 October 1955, the subjects of the essays were recorded. In the Minutes for 12 April 1956, it was noted that the prize had been awarded to G.R.G. Hambly of King's College, Cambridge. In the report of the Anniversary Meeting in the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society, 1956, p.261, the essay titles were reported and that the prize had been awarded to Hambly.
