    The Minutes of the Council Meeting of 12 October 1950 noted the appointment of Dr. B. Lewis and Mr B. Howell for the Essay Prize Committee for that year. In the report of the Anniversary Meeting in the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society, 1951, p.228, the essay subjects were listed and that the prize was awarded to Mr. J.G. Morrell of Wadham College, Oxford.
