    The Minutes for the Council Meeting for 22 April 1948 recorded the Committee Members for the Essay Prize and the Minutes for 14 October 1948 record the approval of the subjects for the Essays. The Minutes for 28 April 1949 report that 4 essays had been submitted and the prize should be awarded to Mr. N.S. Adams, St. John's College, Cambridge.
    In the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society, 1949, p.219, there is a report of the Presentation of the Prize for the Essay on 9 June 1949 and the prizewinner is also mentioned in the Anniversary General Meeting Report on p.215.
