Administrative history

The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

1928
On 8 May 1928 a luncheon was held in honour of Sir George Grierson's completion of the Linguistic Survey of India.

  • Menu card for the luncheon held at The Criterion Restaurant, Piccadilly Circus.

1934

  • Invitation card from the Royal Asiatic Society to meet His Excellency the Persian Minister on the occasion of the Thousandth Anniversary of the Persian Poet, Firdausi, 1 November 1934, printed card, 2 copies.

On 15 October 1936, the Royal Asiatic Society held a Reception at The London Museum, Lancaster House, to honour the 1000th Anniversary of Mutanabbi.
